Get your photos in print with the Onalaska Tourism Commission’s photo contest!

Got a picture of that perfect picnic? How about a shot of your friends hiking the bluffs?

The Onalaska Tourism Commission wants you! Anyone with photos of the Onalaska, Holmen, and West Salem areas can enter their pictures in the 2008 Onalaska Photo Contest. Winning photos may be used in the 2009 visitor guide and other promotional materials, including advertisements and Web sites – and don’t forget the exciting prizes!

Year-round activities of all kinds make the Onalaska area a great place to live and visit. Any season, any activity, any age: we want to see you enjoying all that Onalaska has to offer! Specific photos needed include those depicting events, scenery, shopping, biking, boating, fishing, area restaurants, and people having fun in the community.

Rules and guidelines for entry

1. No purchase or payment is necessary to enter or win.
2. Each photo submission must include the name of the contributor, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, and a brief description of the photo, including where it was taken, what or whom it depicts, and any other relevant information. Submissions not including this information will not be considered.
3. All photos must be of the Onalaska, Holmen or West Salem areas.
4. Once submitted, all photos become property of the Onalaska Tourism Commission. Photos will not be returned; please do not send your only copy of a photo.
5. Please keep a few things in mind about the content of your photos. Group pictures should generally not have more than four people in a shot. Visitor’s Guide photos need to show people enjoying the area in a safe, responsible manner (cyclists wearing helmets, activity not taking place in prohibited areas, etc.)
6. Entries must be submitted by the original photographer. Do not submit a photo taken by someone other than yourself. You must be the sole owner of the copyright of any image submitted. Your submission of the photo and entry information is your guarantee that you are the author and copyright holder of the photo.
7. Photos may be submitted in either electronic (e-mail or CD) or print form; ideally, entrants should submit both. E-mail photos to photos@discoveronalaska.com. Photos or CDs can also be mailed or dropped off at the Onalaska Center for Commerce and Tourism, 1101 Main Street, Onalaska, WI 54650.
8. Participants may submit any number of photos.
9. All photos must be in color and have a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Please do not alter photos by using any artistic filters, borders or watermarks, etc.; however, you may use filters like red-eye removal and brightness modification which preserve the photo’s natural appearance.
10. Deadline for entries is Friday, September 12, 2008. Winners will be notified via e-mail or phone by October 3.
